About 18 months ago I had my gallbladder removed and fully expected my regular stomach pains to be cured, however this was not the case. I still had deep pains in my stomach and so hit the trusty internet and found that causes for gallstones can be from food allergies. Fast forward 12 months and I finally figured out that dairy was the cause of my discomfort and so cut it out completely from my diet. I expected it to be one of the hardest things to do but I’ve actually, personally, found it quite easy. The only time I struggle is when I’m eating out and fancy tea and cake (which is quite often but I manage). In major cities and towns however, I’m finding it a lot easier to pinpoint the kind of places I can comfortably eat at and am surprised more and more often at how accommodating even small cafés can be. My village shop even stocks dairy free chocolate!

The highlight of my year so far though has been two things.. 1). The vegan Chocolate banana cake from Pelicano in Brighton and 2). My Moo free advent calendar

Eating dairy free really doesn’t have to be hard, the trick is to find foods that just happen to be dairy free as your treats i.e. Full fat Mayo, pork pies, Dark Chocolate and to avoid all of the processed ‘free from’ foods that tend to be fully loaded with additives.
